015 The Sea SnipersŪ 10th Anniversary / Historical Item 6: Rainbow 6 Vegas

The Sea SnipersŪ 10th Anniversary
Historical Item 6: Rainbow 6 Vegas

In May of 2007 we made the move to our first, first person shooter as a clan, Rainbow 6 Vegas on the 360.

A ton of research went into this move since we had to be sure it was the right thing to do. For over 4 months we looked at everything from how many people were going to be playing it, to graphics, gameplay, modes, hit detection, clan support, customization, everything, even how supported it was going to be by the developers. This was the only game we had seen where developers were feeding back to the community and actually patching what was wrong with the game.

It wasn't an easy move to make. We had solidified our name in the SOCOM community for over 4 years, everyone knew who we were, and we knew everyone too. We were running a successful league, had great competition, and the 360 was going to be a wasteland to us, we didn't know anyone over there. It was kinda scary lol.

Aside from the unknown we'd face in the 360 community, most of the Sea Snipers had never played first person view shooters before. We had just come off of a 4 years tour in a 3rd person game, so you can imagine the guys were a little reluctant.

Vegas turned out to be a good crossover though, with it's 3rd person cover system, it kind of gave us a little bit of what we were used to in the SOCOM series (peeking corners), along with the new FPS view we were NOT used to. We seemed to get acclimated quite quickly actually, which made me proud, but the game did have it's drawbacks. Anyone remember the corner glitches? (it was where they could see you but you couldn't see them and pew pew yer ded.)

There were some great modes in that game. They had a domination-type mode and my personal fave, Assassination (i think it was called) where one random player on your team was a regular old guy from an office with just a pistol and you had to escort him to one of 2 different extraction points. Kill Phil mode we called it cause the guy looked like Dr. Phil lol.

Alas, they removed that mode in Vegas 2 and we removed ourselves to begin our tour of duty, in Call of Duty. Don't take stuff out that we like please! That's what Socom Combined Assault did, and one of the reasons we moved. Anyone remember how they changed the blood to gray puffs of smoke? LAME!

Some of us loved it and some of us did not, but the Vegas series was the right thing to do at the right time for us. We weren't going to subject ourselves to another 2 years playing Combined Assault waiting for Socom Confrontation to release. Everything was going to next gen consoles at that point anyway. I think we made the right choice.

And our recruit sig of the day is...

Ken didn't make it.

I'm gonna ask you questions, and every time you don't give me answers, I'm gonna cut something off. And I promise you...
they will be things you will miss!

They changed Terrorists to Mercenaries too at the same time. That was lame. Combined Assault should had NEVER been made for the PS2, it should had been a launch title with the PS3.

I remember it blew my mind when you guys switched to 360.... Took me many years later to figure out how much better it was on the 360 side.
