Debate. Violence in Video Games

Quote:
One of the more anticipated events at SGC 2009 had to of been the debate between lawyer and editor of LawoftheGame.com and former lawyer Jack Thompson over the topic of "Violence in Video Games". We highly encourage you to watch the full unedited debate, but if you don't have an hour to spare the here's the debate cut down to a brief 16 minutes.

Recent debate from screw attack. Leave it up to the 70 yr old man to state his case on why video games need to be governed.

It's just the stupid people in this world that make games look bad, it's just like everything else. People only see the bad of things, never the good.

I have watched Looney Tunes growing up and I never once felt like hitting someone with a Sledge Hammer, tie someone to a rocket or shoot a Double Barrel shotgun at anyone.

I also watched many violent movies through the years and I never had the urge to act anything out in real life.

So it boils down to individual choices and good parenting. Parents need to get involved and make sure the young kids are not playing anything THEY feel is violent and not let anyone else dictate what that is.

No single video game, movie or cartoon is going to FORCE someone to do something bad. There are always deeper issues with these people and pointing to any of these is just a cheap way to pass the blame.
