This starts in 2 days. I would normally wait till the event to start reporting and ignore the usual "E3 PREDICTIONS!!!!" mumbo jumbo. But there was one that stuck out that I wanted to put out there.

E3 2010 was almost none existent (less than one page of info). Hobo did a good job of being through on the things he covered.

This year I am going to cover it like the days of old. 2008. Old enough anyway.

Report: Xbox Live Diamond On The Way


Rumors abound that another tier of Xbox Live will add subscription TV service.

Winrumors is reporting that an anonymous source has brought them news of some big changes on the way to Xbox Live. Specifically, Microsoft's E3 press conference is said to have an announcement regarding the new Xbox Live Diamond service, which will add IPTV services to Xbox Live users.

According to the report, as of yesterday the deal was still being negotiated, so some of the key features might not be ready to announce by Monday's briefing.

Xbox Live Diamond was also a previous program Microsoft introduced to its users in 2005. The card primarily offered retail discounts at various retailers, and the program is no longer active.

Rumors have abounded for months regarding Xbox Live's IPTV service.

If the rumor is accurate, we'll see Xbox Live Diamond launching this November.

I am very interested in this. Having sampled Hulu Plus and currently using Netflix, I want something that both of those together just do not yet provide.
It will be interesting to see what MS comes up with, and how it will integrate with the membership services. How much will it be?

I think my daughter is going to "need" Kinect when she gets a bit older. Of course, she'll need my help to play, erm use, the system. Sounds like MS is putting Kinect to good use!

The MS briefing pretty much outlined content that was Kinect based or Kinect enabled. So a lot of focus on the Kinect with the Xbox.

Also there were some exciting improvements outlined for the Xbox Live overall experience in the Dashboard and the Dashboard interface with features and the Kinect hardware.

The Kinect Fun Labs feature is a result of all the hacking folks have done with the Kinect and finding ways to use the Kinect is ways that the original designers never thought of or planned. So the Kinect labs is just a way to showcase some of the many capabilities that the Kinect has. Best part is it is FREE.

Also bing being added to the dashboard will speed up searches for games, movies, and all other features available through the dashboard. With the Kinect you are that much more connected to the fast searching abilities of bing.

YouTube added to the Xbox Live dashboard. Wow. Inch by inch MS is moving the xbox to the front of all your entertainment desires and is taking over your living room.

Ghost Recon Future Soldier looked pretty sweet. What stood out the most with this title in the briefing was the weapon customizing feature. This was fully Kinect compatible allowing you the same kind of control in building/customizing your firearm as Iron Man when designing his final battle suit in the movie. Using gestures and verbal commands you are able to control the customization and then still controller free using the kinect you can test your weapon still using gestures and voice commands on a firing range. Looked very cool!

The Fable Kinect spell casting was impressive. Not a wizard myself but the concept and implication of this feature is very impressive. Spell casters around the world rejoiced when they saw that demo. Really puts you IN the game when you interact in game as a real spell caster would be visualized. Did not see verbal component to the spell casting. Mostly gesture based. But that does not mean it wont be in there.

Star wars was really cool with 100% Kinect controls. Force powers and Light Saber strikes all handled with the Kinect. Awesome visuals.


EA

BF3 look as cool as ever. They showed a demo with tank warfare game play only. I am sure more footage of different game play will come in other trailers. The visuals graphics and details were amazing. Looked more real than digital. Very impressed with that. They also made a point to mention stat tracking and social networking support free, obviously as a counter to the CoD Elite concept of which some part will be a fee service.

ME3 coming out next year. Increased hand to hand combat focus with the addition of a Halo energy sword like energy weapon.

Seeing peer criticism from Ubisoft and Dice of Activision's fee Elite service. Both of those competitors are offering similar services free and they are stressing that in an implied criticism of the Elite service that is scheduled to have some fee involved with some as yet unknown service.
