My cousin married an Academy graduate 2-3 years ago. My uncle fell in love with his new son-in-law, Tommy-the-pilot, and now sends the entire family as much USAF propaganda he can lay his hands on. Pretty cool actually (so is Tommy). Here's some Raytheon video footage he sent my Uncle:

Pretty cool. Of note: that's what I did in the Navy during my Operation Specialist days. I was an Air Intercept Control Supervisor. I made the calls that they're making in the video i.e. Group One South. Hot Hostile. Snap 090 for the Bogey, check switches safe. Translation: There's a group (meaning more than one) aircraft south. That are pointed toward you and are hostile. I want you to turn as fast as you can to 090, make sure you're switches on the weapons are safe (as this is a training mission). etc....blah, blah, blah.

Also, those calls were for the F-18 (they called Hornets) but they were showing F-16's? I'm guessing that the F-18 were the hostiles?

And yes, I did attend Top Gun School as the Air Controller for VFA-115 Switch boxes back in 1995.

Sorry, had to toot that Navy horn a bit. Retired we don't get to talk much about it.....sad clown face

That's really cool stuff Chief! Thanks for the translation too. It's all blah blah blah to me. Even if I knew the speak, I'd still struggle as not having a picture of an entrenching tool or a picture of some stick people holding weaopns means us Army legs are lost lol!

Seriously though, hearing the rattle leaves me with an impression of how hard these guys (and the Navy) train to stay ready for war. The comms part cannot be easy to learn, especially when accompanied by all the other myriad things that are going on simultaneously. But, I guess that's what the school(s) help with too.

And hey, if we don't toot our own service horns, nobody else will do it for us!
