New modes added to Modern Warfare 3, Double XP

Today several new modes have been added to Modern Warfare 3, many of which fan favorites from Call of Duty: Black Ops. The new community playlist is dubbed FFA Gunplay and to celebrate its release, players can earn Double XP throughout the playlist's four new modes. Details straight from the official MW3 blog can be seen below:

Gun Game Variation #1
Classic Gun Game at its finest. Cycle through an 18-gun progression including two sniper rifles to highlight the best marksman in each match.

Gun Game Variation #2
Cycle through six guns three times (no sniper rifles). Learn the 6-gun progression to best pace yourself through each wave.

One in the Chamber
Equipped with the P99 and Tactical Knife, each player starts off with one bullet, earning another for every kill. Elimination occurs after three deaths, with the final three players appearing on the mini-map to keep the action rolling.

As a new feature, eliminated players can chase survivors in spectator mode and back a winner of their choosing. You’re awarded 150 XP for each of the chosen player’s subsequent kills.

All or Nothing
A new variation of Free for All, All or Nothing was inspired directly from the community. All players spawn with the USP .45 handgun with no ammo and a Throwing Knife. The loadout includes the Hardline perk and Specialist strike package with Scavenger in the first slot. Get kills to unlock Scavenger and supply your pistol with ammo.

The Double XP event for the FFA Gunplay playlists will last up until April 2. For those of you who have jumped online and braved this new playlist, which is your favorite new addition?

New Modern Warfare 3 Elite Maps, Now Available for Xbox Live

Sanctuary and Foundation Elite Maps

In line with the news, the Sanctuary and Foundation maps are already posted on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s content calendar together with their description.

Elite Drop 7: Sanctuary

“Suspended in the air one thousand feet up, you’ll battle more than altitude in the towering sandstone monasteries of Central Greece. Formed over millions of years, this sanctuary’s natural rock pillars have repelled invading armies and withstood the ravages of time but now they’ll face your deployment. Test your skills – and the ancient monks’ craftsmanship – with your arsenal of SMG’s, assault rifles and shotguns. Just remember: don’t look down.”

Elite Drop 8: Foundation

“Journey into the heart of South Korea for a decommissioned concrete factory where the cement flows and bullets fly. After decades of constructing roads and building, the towering facility is now a perfectly-constructed combat zone for sniping and run-and-gun rules of engagement. Don’t stand in awe of the towering concrete crusher at the center of the factory unless you want to see your kill ratio meet the same fate.”

The release of these Elite maps is in line with Beachhead House’s promise to launch 24 drops this year.

COD’s 24 DLC Drops

Last month, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was reported to release 24 downloadable content before the new COD title, dubbed as Black Ops 2, will hit the stores on November 2012. At present, Modern Warfare 3 already has six maps namely Liberation, Piazza, Overwatch, Black Box, Sanctuary and Foundation. In addition, MW3 also released two Special Ops Missions – the Black Ice and Negotiator – last March.

Meanwhile, there are still 16 DLCs that MW3 gamers should look forward to:

May: Four maps
June: One map, one mission and one classified
July: Two maps
August: One map, one mission and one classified
September: One map and one mission
However, the game’s content calendar is yet to include what drops 22 and 24 would be. On the other hand, PlayStation 3 gamers will be able to get the Black Box, Black Ice and Negotiator drops on April 12. The Sanctuary and Foundation Elite maps, meanwhile, will be available on PS3 next month.

Modern Warfare 3 Double XP Weekend on Blackout Day

In a shrewd move, Activision and Infinity Ward have announced a double XP weekend for Modern Warfare 3 across all the platforms to celebrate the launch of Collection 1 for PlayStation 3. The weekend will start at 2am PST/5am EST on Friday 20th April on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The MW3 Collection 1 will be available for non-premium Elite members on PS3. The pack features four multiplayer maps, Piazza, Liberation, Overwatch and Black Box on top of which there are two special ops missions, Negotiator and Black Ice. With today being the alleged day for the protest organized by fans of the game, the move proves to be a very shrewd one. The protest in question entails a large group of Modern Warfare 3 players blanking the servers and not showing up at all. If you were going to attend the ‘Blackout’ protest, do let us know how you feel now that you know that it coincides with a double XP weekend.

'Modern Warfare 3' adds Face Off multiplayer mode, releasing next week

Modern Warfare 3 will welcome a new multiplayer mode later this month, Activision has announced.

'Face Off' launches alongside four new maps over the next fortnight. The new mode focuses on one-on-one and two-on-two combat with smaller maps and constant sight lines.

The first two maps, titled Aground and Erosion, release on May 15 and are free to all Xbox 360 users.

Aground takes place on a shipwreck off the coast of Scotland, while Erosion sees players battle among ruins in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius.

The other two 'Face Off' maps, titled Getaway and Lookout, will be available as part of Modern Warfare 3's Content Collection #2, which launches as a timed Xbox 360 exclusive on May 22.

Getaway sees players battle in a beachside mansion in Brazil, while Lookout takes place in an observation post in Afghanistan, reports G4.

Content Collection #2 also contains the recently-released Sanctuary and Foundation maps, as well as brand new multiplayer map Oasis, which takes place on a beach resort in the United Arab Emirates.

The new content drop is rounded off with two new Spec Ops missions, one of which takes place directly after the Hamburg mission in the single-player campaign, while the other is set in a Russian dockyard.

The new maps and modes will roll out to the PlayStation 3 and PCs at a later date.

Wait 1-v-1 and 2-v-2 are new modes? Seriously? And we get smaller maps? What a bonus (insert sarcasm here).

But wait, there’s more; they’re making maps free. So why exactly did I purchase Elite again?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Double XP until Tuesday

Infinity Ward has announced that all versions of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will be dishing out double XP online until May 29 - that's Tuesday next week.

"Double XP for all ‪#MW3‬ playlists (including all platforms) 5/23 through 5/29," tweeted Infinity Ward.

If you've just bought the second content collection for Xbox 360, you'd essentially be a fool if you chose not to take advantage of the promotion.

The latest Modern Warfare 3 DLC will arrive next Tuesday, June 19 on Xbox 360 for Call of Duty Elite subscribers.

That's according to Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin, who also confirmed on Twitter: "Details on the content will be posted on 6/18."
All we currently know is players will gain access to three pieces of content - a new map, a new mission, and another "classified" download.

Content drops 13, 14 and 15 will form the first pieces of content set to be included in the third traditional Modern Warfare 3 DLC collection.

Last month's MW3 DLC for Xbox 360 featured four maps specifically designed for a new multiplayer game mode called Face Off, which offers 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2 and 3 vs. 3 close combat gameplay. It's due to hit PS3 this week.

Modern Warfare 2's Terminal map hitting Modern Warfare 3 for free in July

Infinity Ward announced this week that it is treating Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC to an updated version of Modern Warfare 2's popular Terminal multiplayer map.

The map will be released as free DLC on the Xbox 360 first on July 17 for Elite subscribers and then July 18 for all other Xbox 360 owners. Playstation 3 and PC dates have yet to be determined but it will be free there as well. More than likely, we are looking at a 30 day wait there as part of Activision timed-exclusivity deal with Microsoft.

Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin said on Twitter that, "Terminal is a fan favorite map that we are giving away for FREE. It’s not a part of the content calendar so isn’t one of the maps shown. Plus the content calendar is wrong at the moment anyways. There is more coming than what’s posted there."

Xbox 360 Elite Subscriber: 17th July 2012
PlayStation 3 Elite Subscriber: Around 19th August 2012
Xbox 360: Somepoint in July as part of Map Pack 3.
PlayStation 3: Somepoint in August as part of Map Pack 3.

ELITE Drop 16 is a Multiplayer map called Decomission. A graveyard of rotting [or add decommissioned here] ocean liners has not only given birth to a shantytown of locals, but a mid-sized Multiplayer Map populated in chokepoints; providing the perfect setting for shoreline-based combat.



ELITE Drop 17 is a Multiplayer map called Offshore. Trapped on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, you have nowhere to go but directly at your enemies in this new Multiplayer map boasting helipads, cranes, and countless perches for snipers eager to pick off the competition. Did we mention to look down or else you may fall off?




ELITE Drop 18 is a brand new Spec Ops mission called Vertigo.The luxurious “Oasis” hotel in Dubai hosts the latest Special Ops mission, in which players must use laser-guided RPG’s to dispatch waves of helicopters. Utilize rooftop advantage to defend from waves of enemies, before parachuting to a ground-level exfil point.
