Counter Strike Global Offensive

so this is the shooter I spend all of my time with now (60 hours in the past 2 weeks, I have a problem)

Been playing CS now for about 15 years, this is the most recent iteration.

you can pick it up on steam for dirt cheap.

has an amazing competitive mode, has casual, has community servers, gun game, DM and other modes.

now don't fool yourself here, this game is tough, there is no laser accuracy like COD, you have to control your recoil, avoid spraying, and be as accurate as possible.

2 modes are played in competitive - Hostage rescue and bomb missions. Matches are 30 rounds(15 as counter terrorist, 15 as terrorist).

it is far and away the most balanced shooter there is, and is the most watched competitive shooter out there now.

you guys would really enjoy it if you try it.

and here is a vid of me getting an Ace on dust 2

Cool. I would have to play it to give a real opinion. This I the game everyone mods right? Pretty sure I saw a Star Wars mod.

How are the maps? Do people make maps as well?

yeah, it has full steamworks integration. Community maps, weapon skins, modes...etc

maps are the most balanced maps you will ever play since they are designed with tournament play in mind.

also every 3 months they have operations where community maps are voted on and added to matchmaking for the duration of the operation, it costs 5 bucks to get into the operation and proceeds go to the map makers.

but all maps are always available in community run servers.

oh one more thing, the rank system is built on the ELO system so it ranks by skill, not by time played like current shooters(BF/COD)

your rank can fluctuate depending on your performance, play shitty you go down, play good you go up.

DG I have to tell you those graphics are pretty weak. The character moves all boxy and non-fluid.

its not about graphics, its about gameplay....and its the tightest shooter out there gameplay wise.

character movement is all raw input as well, there are no smoothing animations which can cause problems with hit boxes. Also, animation blending and movement blending make it hard to perform peek shots and stop and turn when you need to. Like I said, its competitive...

also Chief, my framerate while playing that is about 200 or so. you can't overdo the graphics and such on a competitive game that requires split second reactions.

I'll take gameplay over graphics

It is definitely on my things to accomplish in the next 10 years DG.

Need a pc first. I'll get there soon. My future PC build will have to power F16 Falcon BMS at max multiscreen. Not trying to hijack this, but I figure it should be powerful enough for most of the PC games that are coming out.

I haven't purchased a PC game since F117 Stealth Fighter back in the mid 90s. I may have some catching up to do?
