The new application for your 360 is on the way this fall.

The new music initiative, entitled Xbox Music, will launch with over 11 million songs available, but it's not clear exactly how users will access the content, or what pricing will be connected to accessing/buying the songs. The announcement comes via a Steve Ballmer talk at the recent Microsoft Partner Conference.

Also not stated is how Xbox Music will relate to Microsoft's existing Zune music service, if at all.

One interesting tidbit about Xbox Music is that it will allow you to use Kinect and voice recognition to search for songs. Clearly, the future is upon us.

Is this the beginning of the end for the Zune branding, as Microsoft increasingly focuses on making the Xbox brand the center of its home entertainment pitch? Or will Xbox Music offer a distinct service from Zune? Only time (and Microsoft) will tell
