Xbox 360 gamers –

We’ve recently been alerted to the fact that people are modifying their profile data to create fake gamertags with illegal characters and offensive words. If you do this, you will get permanently banned from playing Black Ops online and reported to Microsoft. Consider this fair warning.

Treyarch has a zero tolerance policy towards anyone detected as modifying their consoles or game data. Don’t do it.

Thanks

I needed a few more kills with my cool glasses.

Bassani 11-23-2010 08:22 AM

Ive got these...

http://gunnars.com/remix/esport_phantom.php#

Only thing I don't like is that my headset lifts them up a bit with facial shifts, so I'm constantly adjusting them back in a more comfortable position. They do help relieve eye strain though when you're in front of the pc / tv for an extended amount of time.

I would like this pair though... lol

Microsoft has cleared up confusion about an upcoming double XP weekend for Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Xbox Europe community manager Graeme Boyd originally said the event would take place this weekend, but has now said that isn't the case.

However, he did confirm that a double XP weekend for Black Ops is incoming, so stay frosty BLOppers.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has shot down rumours that the company will begin charging for "out of the box" Call of Duty online multiplayer.

That third one he was soooo lucky. He was going to shoot out the window and get the gang bang by 5 guys if that didn't happen.

[SS]Chief 11-28-2010 03:20 AM

My fav is the T-hwk to the RC Car....NICE!

I wish I'd saved my crossbow shot video. In CORE TDM, three enemies were around the corner. I was shooting my crossbow at the wall to stick and have them run into it. Instead, someone from my team ran in front of me, got stuck with my bolt and ran around the corner. BOOM!! All three enemies were killed, suicide bomber style! It made me raff-a-rot...

DatGuy 11-28-2010 04:33 AM

RC car is for people who don't play as a team. I hate that damn thing.

there should be no offensive killstreak that early.

Every match you just hear the announcer over and over going " Enemy RC car in your area"

it gets really annoying, and people who use it in SnD need a slap upside the face

[SS]Showstoper 11-28-2010 12:59 PM

I use the RC car as one of my Killstreaks. I giggle my ass off everytime I use it. It's the look on the AI face, like in Scooby Doo and he goes, "Raggy?" LOL...:DANCING-banana-032:

This is the flagship item of this game. Deal with it. Complaining will not make it go away. I dislike all kill streaks, I have yet to see why it is a good thing to have them at all. If you are going 3-0, 5-0, 11-0 etc. then why do you need more help? When did owning stop being it's own reward?

DatGuy 11-28-2010 07:48 PM

they could have handled it better, I would like it if when you killed the dude that was driving it, the car stopped and blew up in that place...dead men can't drive.

and yes Midnight I agree that killstreaks are worthless and add nothing to the game.

There are lots of ways they could have handled it. I like they way they did do it. I would just rather it was implemented in a way other than a kill streak. I have many ideas on how it could have been put in the game in a way that did not bring about a snowball affect for lucky people, but for my own reasons I would rather not share those right now.

For the record you are not agreeing with me as I did not say that. They do have worth. The majority of gamers REALLY like them a lot and they add A LOT to the game. However I feel they are not much more than training wheels for the unskilled. And the skilled just use them to make the game less fun for the less skilled in an unnecessarily compounded way. Example: That Guy (word play intended :icon-wink-g:) on the other team is just owning you 11-0. Well that's bad. You feel bad. But the reality is that with all his kill streaks (RC car, napalm, choppers, dogs, etc.) he is actually killing you more like 16-0. So instead of just being beat down you are getting pummeled and you chances of a comeback (one thing I loved about SOCOM was that you could be loosing miserably and still be able to come back for a win) is little to none. So what does all this bla-bla I am saying mean? In short: the outcome of a game is typically decided in the first minute. In the first minute whoever gets to the kill streaks first wins. ....why play the rest of the game?

I see this online in practical observation online in public rooms. In the first minute the kill-streakers are discovered and then you have at least half of the other team quitting in hopes of finding a room less one sided.

DatGuy 11-28-2010 08:28 PM

I really wish they would include more no respawn modes to the game as well. These same modes year after year have become REALLY stale.

There are dozens of games out there that fulfill what you want. If you're tired of the same modes, just hop on over to another game for a bit while you take a quick break from CoD

DatGuy 11-28-2010 08:39 PM

I play those games too...but I like the feel of COD shooting...heres the thing, why should they limit themselves when they could get even more of the market than they already have?

If it were up to me, I'd vote for 'reverse' killstreaks. Folks like me would get something at my 3rd, 5th and 11th death in a row. That might balance the field out a bit. If someone that's really good might charge out with the thought of getting a killstreak. I'd kill them and then feel good about myself!

Good idea Chief. I don't have Black Ops yet (on my Christmas list) but I doubt my experience in B/O is going to be much different online than what it's been in MW2.

It's still the "CoD multiplayer experience," but it IS more enjoyable imo that MW2 online.

Apparently someone declared world peace, because the Sacramento chapter of Veterans for Peace protested a fake war - a Call of Duty: Black Ops event - at a public library last Saturday.

Protesters stood outside the library during the event (a warm-up in preparation for a December 11 tournament) holding signs with slogans like “No Library War Games,” and “War is not worth one of my grandchildren. How about yours?”

Veterans for Peace, along with several other groups, including Grandmothers for Peace, Progressive Democrats, Sacramento Area Peace Action, Wellstone Democrats, the Green Party, and the Peace & Freedom Party lodged their protests prior to the event.

“We have had three unproductive meetings with the library director and her staff. We decided to involve Sacramento people and host of other organizations who support us to protest in the midst of the video gaming session,” said VFP chapter president John Reiger.

The library, which feels that these game-focused events promote a sense of community amongst youth who might otherwise turn towards illegal activities, responded by constructing a display of books that have been condemned or banned by various organizations for their content, including Ralph Ellison's The Invisible Man, Harry Potter, and the Bible.
Looks like Grandma isn't buying someone COD:BO for Christmas....

Hey Black Ops community –

To answer many questions about the game update / patching process, I’ve provided a short walkthrough below to explain how it works and provide some basic timelines for each phase in the cycle.

Phase 1: Gather feedback, reproduce reports and implement solutions.

• As soon as the game is released, we scour the forums and play online with fans to gather feedback.
• The QA team reproduces all feedback reports in a test environment, enters them into our database, and assigns them to dev team members.

o Like any scientific process, reports must be reproduced in the test lab before they can be addressed. With millions of users playing the game, something reported by only a small number of users may not be easily reproducible. For this, it’s important that all reports in the forums provide as much helpful information as they can.
• Estimated time: Generally 2 weeks to build a comprehensive list, reproduce in the test environment, research cause, and implement solutions. This phase is typically the longest part of the process and can easily take more than 2 weeks, depending on the number and complexity of reports. Once a game is released, every change made is high risk, and adequate time is needed to implement the best possible solution.

Phase 2: Test internally.
• Once the highest priority reports have been resolved, the updated game goes through a rigorous internal testing procedure.
• If new issues are discovered or the original issue is not fixed appropriately, more time is needed to research and implement new solutions. Video games are highly complex pieces of software. Every change made has a potential impact somewhere else in the game, so the entire game has to be tested with each update.
• Estimated time: Minimum of 1 week to thoroughly test the entire game and internally approve the update for release.

Phase 3: Console manufacturers test and approve the update for release.
• As soon as our QA team has approved the update internally, it is then submitted to the console manufacturers for their own testing and approval. At this point, it is out of our hands.
• If the game update is approved by the console manufacturers, the cycle is done and the update is prepped for release. If the game update is rejected, an accelerated version of the entire process starts again.
• Estimated time: Minimum of 1 week to get an approval.

o Note: PC patches do not require manufacturer approvals, but because of the high number of variables in computer hardware and OS configurations, both Phase 1 and Phase 2 require additional time that does not exist on consoles which have standardized hardware. The PC patch development cycle takes about the same amount of time start-to-finish as that of consoles.

Phase 4: Release
• Once the game update is approved by both internal QA and the console manufacturers, it gets prepped for release. This is a very short phase, but it can add time to the process depending on a number of variables.
• Estimated time: Generally 2-3 days.

That is a high level overview of the patching / update process. Time estimates listed above are averages – it usually takes at least a full month to complete a game update cycle. Often, there are multiple full game updates in the works simultaneously, which is why you see less than a month between full game updates. In some emergency cases, this time can be accelerated, but this is very rare.

The description above outlines the process for publishing permanent game updates and does not apply in the same way to hot fixes. Hot fixes are temporary, server-side fixes that are used to patch in simple adjustments to the game. These are not permanent fixes, and they only apply to online portions of the game. Most significant changes to the game cannot be made with a hot fix.

There you have it – hopefully this removes some of the mystery of the game update and patching process. Enjoy the game and continue to communicate your feedback to us!

Regards,
-JD

Good stuff Chief. Thanks. I always love what the myth-busters come up with. Always good stuff.

I may see you guys on this soon, Im selling my PS3 copy on tuesday and getting it for 360.
The PS3 version is a terrible mess, Connection issues out the ying yang(I consider it a victory if you make it through one match). It has a very poor framerate, and the napalm kills it even more. It looks worse than the 360 version as well.

so after prestiging twice on PS3, its going back, I cant take it anymore...

hope to shoot your faces next week
