The MP demo is out for those of you who want to try this...

it's BF2 set in the future... I played for about 2 hours... pretty good...

The vehicles DEFINATELY are way better when you've got a second-seater.

The release for Battlefield 2142? A couple weeks ago. I bought it last week, its quite good.

sorry I'm a little off, I even missed the release of SCA I was so caught up in work. I haven't even been on S3. It's just a couple minutes a day that I get to go even on here

In my opinion, BF2142 is the best outta all of them... and I've been playing since 1942 (So thats: BF1942, BF1942:Secret Weapons, BF1942 Road To Road, BF:Vietnam, Desert Combat, BF2, BF2: Special Forces, BF2: Armored Fury, BF2: Euro Forces, BF2: Project Reality - heh... quite a few...)

The game's terribly entertaining.

They made all the weapons way more accurate then their BF2 counter parts. You can drop someone without having to hit them with 10+ rounds... (And the light/heavy machine guns' cone of fire tightens up as you shoot - even as they heat up)

The vehicles are powerful, but destroyable by ground forces - there's enough anti-tank turrets on the ground to use and engineers can unlock floating magnetic mines - very dangerous to roll up on. Plus aside from the default anti-tank rockets the engi gets, there's an unlock that's an antitank gun they get... I'm working on that one.

The air vehicles are significantly reduced in power - which makes me sad, but it does make them less of a problem... nothing pissed people off in BF2 as much as a good pilot and a good second seater in a heavy bomber...

ALL the maps are freaking fun and well designed.

If you knife someone you collect their dog tags too... it's very satisfying to stab a sniper you just snuck up on.


And Titan mode is a freaking blast. There's nothing I like to do more, then to defend my titan by dropping a Auto-Sentry Turret in a hallway and laying down behind some cover and lighting up any attackers that come my way with my Ganz HMG... I love that freaking thing.

And I haven't really noticed any bugs or unbalancing issues. Some people have problems being on the Titan while it's moving, but after the next patch, they're making the Titans unmovable once their shields are down.

If yer computer can run the demo, then buy the freaking full version (I recommend buying the actual DVD instead of using the EA downloader)

unlocked my advanced ammo hub, and got my explosives bronze badge, 2 explosive excellence pins, and my Infantry Officer Ribbon (500 xp for that shizzie)

just need to get stabby and collect 8 dog tags from some newbs in a round and I'll get my Infantry Combat Medal (and get promoted to Lieutentant Gold)

i dunno, but you can rank up pretty quick just by playing a couple hours.

early on, it's pretty easy to rank up.

My advice on unlocks?

Get the High Explosive Grenades first.

Teamspeak just runs in the background...

so you'd launch TS, get into the proper channel (right click on the channel and select "join channel")

and then launch BF2142...

if you followed the instructions in that post on our forums, you can press your "push to talk" key and speak and anyone else in that channel should be able to hear you.

And you should be able to hear them.

Mostly just whenever. We are NOT a BF2142 clan. JUst alot of us have it.

The past 2 weeks have been a little weird for us since alot of people were away for the holidays.

I jumped off my Titan and hit the parachute immediately for a nice long fall and about 5 seconds down, and enemy airship comes along and clips my parachute. I thought I was dead, but the airship blows up and I get two kills and rank up off of that.

kinda nice. What we ended up doing was hovering right behind our Titan once the shields were down and I was in the gunner seat. Tech kept it perfectly still and I'd blast anyone I saw landing in a pod. I killed atleast 20 of em before they started going kamikaze with their transports at us. heh.

Is getting a joystick worth it? I know it came in handy in BF2 with the jets and helis but is there that many air vehicles in 2142?

the airships are pretty much essential in titan mode
I'm a pretty good gunner, but I lack these "skillz" that Chenzo talks about to make a good pilot

yeah... I dunno if I'd ever recommend anyone get a joystick for 2142... the air vehicles are just not that important. Sometimes it's nice to be able to fly onto the enemy titan to attack it, but I've been using the APC ground transports to get up there and it seems like they last longer since when people land the transports on the titan, the enemies surround them and wait for people to spawn (And then blast you...)

you'd get chewed to pieces if you used a controller...

you NEED to use the keyboard/mouse combo. Not to mention it uses ALOT of keys so a controller wouldn't have enough buttons on it.

I'll be handicapped, then. I've avoided FPS's on PC for that reason. But, 2142 looks so good I'm tempted to learn how to use the keyboard. My typing skills are pretty good. But, relating keys to certain actions without thinking about it will take some time to master. Can you say "easy target"?

you don't need to have typing skills...

in reality, all you need to do is keep your fingers on the WSAD keys

w = forward;
s = back;
a = strafe left;
d = strafe right;

and then you aim by moving the mouse.

2142 is a good one to start with. You just gotta think of the mouse/keyboard as just a different controller.

I was missing my healing badge, so I set out to get it...

Road Kills are a built in part of the game.


when they say no ramming, they're talking about airships... Don't take a transport and just fly it full speed into the attack airship that's been pwning you cause you suck so much you can't shoot it down.

I think the "no ramming/no base raping" rules are weaksauce.

a little question for you expert knifers.

how do you get close enough to knife people? every time I start getting close enough they coincidently turn around and see a guy with a knife and shoot me and I die. as a result, I only have 2 tags total ( and thats only by luck)

Most of the time, I get it by just walking up to them and stabbing. Making an actual slashing motion while you're clicking the button can help.

Plus you need to be right up on them.

I sucked at it at first. Not that I'm much better now, but I can stab people.

My favorite is coming up behind a prone sniper.

i went up 9 ranks in 2.5 weeks, playing only a couple hours every other day or so. Badges = unlocks. Pins dont get you many points, medals get you none. Silver and gold badges get you the points to unlock goodies.

1/4 destroyed hachimotos, 0/2 destroyed goliaths, and you meet all of the death requirements for the meritorious winterstrike
for the cold front service ribbon, you need only 1 more win on Port Bavaria and 15 kills in 1 NS round
10 kills in 1 NS round needed for the Arctice Combat badge silver
that's the stuff that you are close to.

Goliath killing tip: use the IT-33 while out of sight of the Goliath, and then sprint to the Goliath while cloaked drop cloak when within 2-3 feet of the IFV, and put RDX packs like crazy on the repair hubs (blue thingys) and then detonate. also, if you get killed, the RDXs will detonate anyway. So you get pts for destroying strategic objects and maybe even the Goliath

well, you only need one more. Hachimotos are alot easier though. sneak into their base using IT-33, slap RDXs onto their speeders, sneak away, and watch them for when they leave. just make sure that they don't see you when you drop your cloak. This way will get you 2 or 3 at a time

I've been using the engi kit to get Goliaths.

Step 1. Drop all 5 motion mines near your position.

Step 2. Wait for an approaching Goliath.

Step 3. Throw motion mine bait directly at the Goliath. 5 montion mines exploding at the same time will destroy the Goliath, even if it's got all 6 repair pods.

Step 4. Profit.

not really, it just IDs infantry the Accipiter however, actually locks on and fires

I couldn't get the exact information on it, but I imagine that it has better damage than the A-12. I get it alot through field unlocks and I only really use it for titan defense because it locks on through NetBat and there are usually alot of squad members in the corridor you are defending.

How's the shotty, good range? Effectivness?

medium range is okay, long range is bad, but close range, nothing better. OSK almost every time within 10 ft. It is now almost indespensible to me and my team during Titan assault.

Pilum is great and support is very useful.

I've actually gotten really good with the submachine gun that the engi has, so if I use that kit when I get my philum I will be unstoppable. Taking out infantry and then switching to take out those pesky walkers.

I just got the 20mbps, but my ping rate doesn't seem to have changed at all on 2142 or BF2 servers (yes, I finally got it)

i havent checked on random public servers, but id imagine its pretty good. When i ping to Techs server (which is less than a half mile away) i ping like 3-5...
