People like to guess what the real names of weapons are, so I thought I would do one as well. Get it right and get a cookie.

Alright I'll keep this going.

What is the real name and manufacturer of what was known as the SP-10 in SOCOM II? What type of "power" was the round it used designed for?

Bassani
10-01-2006, 03:35 PM
Serdyukov SPS / Gyurza / Vector SR-1 9x21mm

designed to deal with targets in bulletproof vests or hiding in cars etc

Rator's not allowed to answer since he's shot it. (Extra points for the type of ammo it fires.)

[SS]Shooter

Thats a standard .223 AR-15.

Look like maybe a Rock River Arms or Bushmaster model, with a Knights modular rail system on the forend and a 6 position collapsable buttstock. It has some type of red dot system (Bushnell maybe?).

I see you have some .308 ammo there... what were you shooting that's .308?

Chenzo
10-02-2006, 11:40 AM
Close, it's a M-4 actually. Colt, baby. (Pratically the same thing... I'll give 50 points.)

And I think the 308 was there for the enfield my buddy brought. Unfortunately it had a burr in the chamber that was jamming the bolt and deforming teh cartridges. We only put 3 rounds through it before he figured he should take it to a gunsmith.

Ah, here it is:

Yea thats M4 is and M4A1 Colt Carbine, shoots a .22 caliber bullet. I have one it is the most accurate automatic I have ever shot.

Bassani
10-02-2006, 07:10 PM
The M4 Colt carbine shoots a 5.56 round. The same as the M-16 which is also made by Colt firearms. Both weapons are extremly similar but have a few different parts to them.

I an not quite sure on the M4 but I do know the barrell on the M-16 has groves inside of it. I forget the correct term for it, Might be lands and grooves, but it causes the round to tumble when it comes out which is wht it make the M16 so deadly. It can go in at your shoulder and come out by your waist because of the tumble action it has from the barrel, it can bounce around all inside your body causing massive dammage. On the flip side, a tree branch can throw the round off target.

And I believe the main difference between the M4 and AR15 is the barrell length. The M4 is shorther than the AR. The M4 is more military as the AR is more Law enforcement.

[SS]Vapid
10-02-2006, 07:47 PM
Isn't that called Rifleing?

Isn't 5.56 the metric version while .223 is the standard/english version? Bothing the same thing?

Bassani
10-02-2006, 07:50 PM
Yea V, but Sabatoge said it was a .22

They have the same type of kick, but the M4 / M16 is a bigger round. A .22 isnt as strong.

[SS]Vapid
10-02-2006, 08:11 PM
From what I read, I gathered the following;

Because we, in the United States, prefer the standard/English system of measurement we go by the .223 caliber and the rest of the world calls it a 5.56mm (metric). The difference in this case is that our military also prefers the metric system as its primary measurement system for ammunition. That in itself is not a big deal except our military likes to have a stronger load. So when we, in the United States, say 5.56mm we are usually referring to the military spec round that is a little more powerful than the civilian version which we call a .233 caliber.

Someone please shoot me.... and not with an m16. The entire m4/m16 family of weapons uses 5.56mm rounds... 7.62mm rounds are just that.... 7.62mm.

*shoots Hoot w/ M-16*

at least some m-16s use 7.62mm

[SS]Vapid
10-04-2006, 09:54 PM
No, they don't. Unless they have received special modification.

The AK-47 shoots a 7.62 round. They do look somewhat similar to each other but they are different.

If you doubt me, go buy an M16/M4/AR14 and put some 7.62 ammo in it.

[SS]Shooter
10-04-2006, 09:55 PM
M16/AR-15 = 5.56 mm aka .223 Remington

Stoner (SR-25) and M-60, M-14 use 7.62 x 51 (aka .308 Winchester).

AK/SKS use 7.62 x 39

Bassani
10-04-2006, 10:04 PM
If Im not mistaken, The RA is the only other weapon that shares the same ammo as th AK.

And yes the M16 is a 5.56 round, which IS different from a .22 Put the 2 next to each other same with the 5.56 & 7.62

Ok, On the left side of the top pic is a 5.56. The right of the top is a 7.62. The bottom pic is a .22. They are different rounds. There also are some rifles out there that resemble an M16 that shoot 7.62's and .22's, but its not an M16

7.62 x 54 is used in the Dragunov (SASR in game) sniper rifle as well.

It's basically the equivalent of a .300 Winchester Magnum.
