Grifter already told us about this, but I wanted to get it out there for public view...

From the SOCOMBLOG (http://socomblog.typepad.com/socom/2006/02/socom_3_downloa.html)

Greetings SOCOMers: Get ready to take your gaming experience to a new level. We are committed to constantly improving the overall playability of the game. Software development is an evolutionary process, and the game and expanding the game go hand-in-hand because expansion is simply another form of improvement.

Starting next month, SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs Map Packs will be available exclusively for online download on the PlayStation 2. The map packs will be downloadable from the SOCOM 3 servers and will enable gameplay on updated versions of some of the favorites from previous versions of the game, as well as new, never before seen maps.

Updated versions include: SOCOM II's After Hours, Last Bastion and Liberation. These maps have been overhauled to include multiple game types per map, respawn modes, day and night options and weapon customization.

Also, second and third map packs will come over the next few months and will feature some classics from the original SOCOM, as well as some all-new SOCOM 3 maps.

Fore more information, click here (http://www.us.playstation.com/PressReleases.aspx?id=326) to read the press release.

Happy gaming!

Do we have to have a PS2 hard drive to enjoy these downloads?
And will this cost money?

WTF...I know $5.99 is nothing to bitch about but come on.
I feel that right there is complete bullshit. They made enough money off of everyone when the game came out...why not do something to give back to the buyers. whatreyout

Good point.. maybe at least not having to pay for the first Map pack would have been nice. This way they could entice us with the map packs to come

No doubt, last time we had to buy the damn OPM (Offical Playstation Magazine) to get the maps...then after three issues, they put ALL the maps in the fourth issue...damn you Sony!

We payed what 50 bucks enitially. and dont pay for online gameing. i think 5.99 is well worth freshining this game up a bt. although i think they should worry more about fixing the game before upgrading it:)

Has the [SS] team been asked to help with map design and redesign?

Don't mean to pry if it is something you can't comment on yet.

Well I'm looking forward to seeing your new renditions on the classics, and I hope for your benefit and my own that they don't change them so much that the maps we all know and love are lost in the mix!
