No, no sharpshooters badge, that's only barely qualifying. However, I have earned the Marine Expert Rifleman's badge.

These were take a few months ago when my buddy invited a few of us to the range.

my dad said when he was in, (1970-1973) that the requirements were , 1500 meters shoot a target, while standing, with and M16.
My dad says he has his uniform at my grandpas house. He says i can fit in it, But i have to take off his rank and his other patches he was awarded. But thats cool. But he has his sharp shooters badge and if i find it ill scan a pic of it

Nobody gets to use a scope at the range, iron sights only. I'm a little leary about the 1500 meters though, not saying he's wrong though. The Marine Corps uses 200, 300, and 500 yard distances on it's range. That's 182.88, 274.32, and 457.2 meters respectively. And, I can honestly tell you that from 5 football fields away (500 yards, duh), that the front sight of the M16A2 is wider than a B Mod target. That is the target that looks more or less like a human torso and head. I couldn't imagine that anyone could see that target at three times that distance without a scope though. Besides, the maximum effective range against area targets of the M16A2 is only around 500 meters, and the maximum range is around 2,600 meters.

the M16A2 is, in my opinion, the best gun on S3
Very accurate can equip a high scope, grenade launcher, or pretty much anything you need

in real life, can the M16A2 shoot full auto? the burst on S3 is just plain annoying

[SS]TuefelHunden
01-06-2006, 05:28 PM
The M16A2 is not manufactured to fire full auto. It is not meant to be a suppression weapon such as a M249 SAW (uses 5.56mm)or a M240G (uses 7.62mm). It is a rifle, not a maching gun. However, the M16A2 can be modified to shoot full auto.

Greek
01-06-2006, 05:30 PM
ok my dad said i was correct. He was Army not Navy or Marines. Second he said that it was Full-Auto, Burst, Semi-Auto. But then again last time he fired one was in 1973

[SS]Vapid
01-06-2006, 05:33 PM
The M16A1 did shoot full auto, right?

I forget where I got it, but i have one jsut like that...it's kind of tough to keep it up on your face though (at least mine is) but it does keep your face nice and warm and it doesn't slip too much

I'll try and find out where I got from and let you know.

Hey what's up [SS]!
I'm new to the site and yes...I am NEO's friend in camo.
To VAPID: I bought that mask at a clothing store...I know. But you can find them at your local ski store or at a DICK's, or sporting goods store.
It really helps in the winter.

yes, u guys are right. it used to be full auto, but its now issued as a 3 round burst and semi-auto weapon. it was mostly full auto in Vietnam, but after a while people were just "Spraying and Praying", and it was extremely wasteful, and very inaccurate. They cut it down to 3 round burst to conserve on ammo.

1500m can't be right
That is 4500ft. A mile is 5280ft.
I don't think your dad was trying to aim at something w/o a scope almost a mile away...

01-25-2006, 06:59 PM
yeah.. that kind of stuff only works in socom 3 with an M16 no scope

[SS]Vapid
01-25-2006, 07:01 PM
The scope on S3 goes to 100 meters and change. Not 1,000 meters.

[SS]Cuervo
01-25-2006, 07:03 PM
btw i believe it was 1500 feet not meters... 1500 feet = 500 yards

[SS]Raiden
01-25-2006, 07:21 PM
it is 1500 feet not meters, no one no matter what branch of service , no matter what time frame they were in , EVER qualified 1500 meters with an M-16 A-1 or A-2 , without a scope
