Does anyone build AR's or have a strong opinion about parts to use/not use?

Things like compensators, gas blocks etc.

I know that I've got a micro gas block on mine and it works great and let me put a longer rail on it. I don't use a compensator, but I have a fake silencer on it which adds weight to the front end keeping the barrel from rising too much.

There are some great compensators out there tho but depends what you want and will depend on what your barrel length is.

Vltor makes good stuff as does Daniel Defense, Spikes Tactical, LaRue, etc.

I'd keep weight in mind. Daniel Defense makes the lightest rails I think. But again that depends on what youre gonna be using it for. Running around or rested long range.
