Report: Publishers Already Working On New Xbox Hardware

A Develop Magazine source says Electronic Arts is already working with the next Xbox console, and speculates that Microsoft could steal Nintendo's next-gen console thunder with a surprise announcement at E3.

The source claims that EA has had the new hardware for over a month, and that it's a crude build that's being stored in a PC shell. The speed that Microsoft got this console up and running is rather shocking considering that the company just started hiring new engineers for the project this past March.

While the report is light on hardware specification details, it does say the system will have enhanced support for Kinect. The source believes Microsoft plans to launch the console by the end of next year.

Develop reached out Microsoft and EA, but both declined to comment.

A bit early for that kind of speculation isn't it? How well did the 360 do in comparison with PC hardware at the time of it's launch in in 2005?

A bit arbitrary, but a decent gauge. I do not see why the next gen console will not be as competitive with PC. Maybe we will get lucky and it will enable us to play consoles on par with PC's? ...one can hope.
