yeah...

looks ok... and I like JJ... my GF has made me go to 2 girlie flicks already... I told her (even tho, I don't really want to) we're going to this on opening night at an iMax theater just so I can wig her out with all the trekkies wandering around.

I will be happy if the special fx are cool. If the story is good ontop of that would be a bonus for me.

Star Trek for the 'Zack and Josh' crowd. That movie is designed to plant 14-24 year olds in theater seats for 1-2 weeks so it can make back its production budget before people figure out it sucks.

I don't know about seeing it in a theater outside of the one in my living room. I'll have to watch it at some point. I can't pass on good fx.

I've always thought Star Trek was interesting, they follow almost all the rules of physics and astronomy (ya know besides the ships) and I'm a huge astronomy geek. I may pay to see it.

Never was a big fan. But, what they've accomplished is impressive considering how long ago the TV series began. They were doing Fx with strings and paper cups back then and pulled it off. I wonder if William Schattner (sp?) will be making a guest appearance in this one?

No, he won't.

He's salty about it too...

The thing is most of the original cast members hate each other.

Isn't that funny? I wonder if it is because they worked with each other so long, or if it is because Shattner is rumored to be a prick. Maybe a god complex?
Hahahaha, I don't care either way.
Just bring Bones back and throw a slug in someones ear for him to dig out.

[SS]Midnight
03-08-2009, 04:19 PM
No. Their targeted audience is all sci-fi lovers. This movie will be different from all the others. The old Star Trek had a lot of 'cheezyness' in it. This one they have the freedom of choosing new actors and of course the current tech on CG and other movie tricks.

It will be awesome.

The farthest I ever went into Trekie land was around age 12 when I found a English-Klingon book at the library. I grabbed it for 2 weeks. I was surprised that they had made a full on language for Klingon...that lasted 2 weeks. I like to watch the movies. I don't want to speak Klingon, Vulcan, or Farangie..... I just like sci-fi entertainment.

Oh ya and I liked figuring out the warp factor speeds. That was cool.

Exactly why I went to see it yesterday w/ my daughter.

She also wants to go see GIJoe, Transformers 2, and Terminator, but there is no way either of those movies could hold up to Star Trek. I can't wait to see it again. Oh btw, I loved the 1st 2 Star Trek movies, and hated the series.

The theater next to my work has these new digital projectors that kick ass. This was the best looking movie I have ever saw my entire life.

I will be buying this on Blue Ray when it comes out.

If they do a sequel, which I hope they do, let's just hope it is just as good.

Agreed Wally. This movie is definitely a keeper.

And I hope that they do a sequel as well. So many places they can take this entire series now that it's been given new life. They haven't even tapped the Klingon aspect of the series yet.

I just read a blurb regarding the movie - the core of the cast is signed to reprise their roles in 2 sequels, which is standard practice. Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof began writing the script for a sequel in March 2009, with the hope to complete it by December and produce the film for a mid-2011 release. J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk will produce, although Abrams has not signed to direct again.

Doesn't mean that JJ Abrams won't, it's not unusual to sign the cast to a trilogy and the director to one film at a time.

I'll be looking forward to the next installment and to adding this DVD to my collection. It does make me want to get some of the original episodes and watch them for old times' sake though.

Just saw this, great movie. Im a bit of a trekkie and thought the whole friendship kindling with Spock and Kirk was great, Bones was great, you could really tell he studied the way the guy spoke, like his meter and whatnot, very good. The spock/uhura thing, meh, but the whole movie i thought was really well done and not cheesy at all. Buying.
